Summer is almost here and I’m gonna be real honest: it’s THE WORST time to buy candles and wax melts.
Okay, so maybe worst is a little harsh.
It’s definitely not the most ideal time for residents in most southern and western states.
I know you’re wondering what makes summer so bad compared to other months, especially since summer scents are some of the most popular scents I have.
Let’s talk about it from MY perspective.
Summertime is vacation time.
With many US citizens getting the COVID-19 vaccine (at this point, the number is over 130 million) it’s logical to assume that people will begin to travel again. Being socially distant/quarantined/self-isolated has turned peoples’ “normal” upside down, and the desire to get back to that is HIGH. All this to say, not a whole lot of candles sales would be made because money would likely be spent on other things, which isn't bad at all. During summer 2020 (June 20 – September 21), we received 57 orders. Fall that same year (September 22 – December 21), we received 102 orders.
Them shipping delays, tho.
Since the start of the panoramic, we’ve witnessed shipping delays with E V E R Y T H I N G. Orders taking a week or longer to get delivered, equipment and materials needed to make your orders being delayed (or panic-bought to the point of almost extinction), and last but not least, that time where we thought that USPS was going to go away for good (I still have that fear, to be honest).
Longer shipping times means more time spent in hot trucks and warehouses. And since these are wax products, that means that they can likely melts. A customer in California sent me a picture of her wax melts as soon as she got them. Even though she loved the scents, it was more of a wax mess. Because of this, I had to disable the ability to order if you were shipping to California, Nevada, and Arizona. I feared that the products would arrive ruined due to the heat.
Squishy melts? No thanks.
I haven't found a long-term, fool-proof way to keep products cool. Sure, there are dry ice packs that could do it, but I’m not sure how well they would. I thought about trying it out, but that would result in a higher cost to you. That’s not something I’m a big fan of, tbh.
So how can you get around this? Order your candles in the spring or fall! These really are the best times to order. The weather is cool and we’re no longer in the holiday season so shipping companies shouldn’t be overloaded with orders. I understand not everyone can avoid ordering things in the summer.
If you do happen to order in the summer (and it's completely okay if you do), anticipate a (hopefully) small amount of melted wax on the top of the candle and that your wax melts may arrive a little squishy. If you do receive a wax mess, pop them in the freezer for a little bit and they’ll be ready to melt (in the warmer) in no time! Well, maybe 30 minutes or so, but you get the idea.
I’ve got some summer-inspired scents ready for you right now, with a restock coming this week. Head on over to check out my Spring/Summer collection and find your new favorite scent!
